Week of November 16-20, 2015

THIS WEEK:
This week, we continue our study of Pilgrims, Native Americans and Thanksgiving.  Some of the books we will read include The Littlest Pilgrim, Red Fox and His Canoe, and The Legend of the Indian Paintbrush.  Miss Callahan, my methods student, is teaching reading this week.  Her last day with us is Thursday.  She has been with us on Tuesdays and Thursdays and has done a wonderful job.  We wish her the best!

Our target words this week are: open, close, leave, off, door, and don’t.  We will also work on long vowels and the vowel sounds of y.

In Math, we continue our work on place value and comparing numbers using >, <, and =.  Check work each night to be sure you child doesn’t need some extra help. 

REMINDERS:
  • Scholastic Book Orders due this Friday!  www.scholastic.com/readingclub Code: GL4RP.  Ordering online is easy!  Books will be here before Christmas!
  • Thanksgiving lunch in cafeteria Thursday – red choice will be turkey & gravy with dressing, blue choice will be hot ham and cheese sandwich.
  • Snacks – this week and Nov. 30-Dec. 4 – Anna.  
  • Box Tops are due this week for November!!

  • December 4th – Share Your Christmas Food Drive (form in folder today)
  • December 10th 2:00 p.m. – 1st Grade Performance – The ABC’s of Christmas – I am sending your child’s speaking part home tomorrow.  Please practice this week and over the Thanksgiving break… thank you!
  • December 11th – Father/Daughter Holly Ball at Ross for Yates/Ross girls
  • December 14-16th – Christmas Around the World
  • December 17th – Class Christmas Party at 2:00!
  • December 18th – Polar Express PJ Day J and Abbreviated Day (dismiss at 11:30)

ALL ABOUT ME:
Jayden shared some pictures of his family with us.  Some of his favorites include Legos, Minecraft, being outside, eating chicken, and the colors blue and red. 

This week’s All About Me student is Jesua.  Nov. 30-Dec. 4 is Jesus.
