THIS WEEK:
          This week our focus is Dr. Seuss and Read Across America as we lead up to Dr. Seuss’ birthday on March 2nd.  We will have a lot of fun as we dive into some of these silly books.  We will read many books including The Cat in the Hat, Ten Apples Up on Top, Fox in Socks, Wacky Wednesday, and Green Eggs and Ham.  We will work on comprehension, cause and effect, and complete a description web.  Our high-frequency words this week are: food, ate, full, most, more, and always.  We will also work on substituting initial phonemes, long i: ie, igh, and kn/n/ and wr/r/.  In Math, we are adding and subtracting to 100.  Math fact test will be on Thursday this week – we are subtracting 2.

THIS WEEK:
          This week we will continue to study Presidents, with the focus being on George Washington and Abraham Lincoln.  The children will also be sharing their research projects this week.  Our high-frequency words are: fly, fast, goes, try, though, and why.  We will also work on substituting initial phonemes, long o: oa, ow, and three-letter blends.  In Math, we will be working on finding 10 more or 10 less without having to count and adding and subtracting 10’s.  Math fact test on Friday will be subtracting 1.

REMINDERS:
·        Research Project – research of a president was due today!  We will be sharing them in class this week.  This project counts for 2 grades – research writing and speaking/listening.
·        Snacks this week and next week:  Nash
·        Library books were due today!  Checkout day is tomorrow.

THIS WEEK:
          I was happy to see everyone back today!  I hope we will all stay well!  Since last week was shortened, we will finish up Valentine’s Day books and activities tomorrow and then we will start talking about Presidents, with the focus being on George Washington and Abraham Lincoln.  I am really looking forward to your children sharing their research projects next week.  I am putting some papers in their folders today to help you with the project (I am so sorry!  I forgot to attach to the letter I sent home).  Our high-frequency words this week are:  please, tell, once, use, and made.  We will also work on segmenting and counting syllables, inflected endings, and long e: ea.
In Math, we are working on fact families.  Math facts test on Friday is a review of 7, 8, and 9.  We will start subtracting math facts next week.  Remember… these are timed tests – we are working on fluency in addition and subtraction with these. 

REMINDERS:
·       Research Projects on a President of your choosing are due by February 21st.  We will be sharing them in class.  This project counts for 2 grades – research writing and speaking/listening.  Papers to help are in your child’s folder today!
·       Snacks February 21-24 and February 27-March 3: Nash.  Thank you!
·       Library books are due tomorrow!  Checkout day is Wednesday.

          With Valentine’s Day coming up next week, our focus this week will be on Valentine’s.  We will read many books including Kiss Me, I’m Perfect, The Night Before Valentine’s Day, and Clifford’s First Valentine’s Day.  Our high-frequency words this week are:  please, tell, once, use, and made.  We will also work on segmenting and counting syllables, inflected endings, and long e: ea.
In Math, we are working on fact families.  Math facts test on Friday is a review of 7, 8, and 9.  We will start subtracting math facts next week.  Remember… these are timed tests – we are working on fluency in addition and subtraction with these.  Practice speed of solving at home!!    

REMINDERS:

ALL ABOUT ME:

Owen was our All About Me student last week.  His favorite color is red.  He likes to play with Batman toys, go to the park, and eat chicken.  His mom always puts toys on his birthday cake and he loves it J
