THIS WEEK:                                                               
We are doing an author study on Rosemary Wells this week.  We will read many of her books including Bunny Cakes and Bunny Money, and some of the McDuff books.  We will do many activities with these books including a comprehension test, cause and effect, writing “How To” papers, and working on character, setting and main idea.  We are also working on digraphs sh and th, the vowel sound in ball, and complete and incomplete sentences.  In Math, we are working on shapes – defining attributes and composing.    

REMINDERS:
  • Our field trip to Mayfield Farms is this Friday!!  If you have not turned in your form and donation, please do so by tomorrow.  Class t-shirts are here (dark purple with a new design this year!) and I will put them on your child Friday morning for the field trip.  If you didn’t pay for it at the beginning of the school year, please send your $5 when you can.  Thanks!
  • No Reading Groups the rest of this week.  The children are being pulled and read with independently to check their current independent reading level.
  • Fall Break is next week… enjoy!  Students return on Tuesday, October 13th.
  • Snack Reminder – this week and after Fall Break (Oct. 13-16) is Miguel.  Thank you!

Dominic shared his All About Me with us.  He shared pictures of when he was born, his family, and fun places he likes to go.  He loves the movie Cars, the beach and swimming.

Week of September 21-25, 2015

THIS WEEK:
Johnny Appleseed’s birthday is Saturday, so we will begin our study on his life and on apples!  We are going to have a lot of fun as we learn more about apples, Johnny Appleseed, and do math groups with “apple activities” J  We will read many books including Johnny Appleseed, How Do Apples Grow? and Apples, Apples, Apples.

We are also working on short u and initial and final blends.  In math, we will be working on place value.  Be sure to review addition and subtraction. 

REMINDERS:
  • Please be sure to read your child’s reading group book with them each evening (Mon-Thurs), sign and return daily!  Consistency in reading makes for a better reader!!
  • Our field trip to Mayfield Farms is next Friday!  The form went home last week.  Please return form and money as soon as possible.  Thank you!
  • Don’t forget to bring habitat project tomorrow!
  • Open House is this Thursday, September 24th!  Please try to drop by the classroom between 6:00-7:30 to see what your children have been up to so far this year and check out the yummy bake sale and book fair!  This is an important event for your child!
  • Snack Reminder – Sept. 28-Oct. 2 and Oct. 13-16 - Miguel.  Thank you!
  • No Library checkout this week due to the book fair.

NEED:
Please send in an apple with your child this week – red, yellow, or green.  We will be using them to count apple seeds, do fractions, and to eat and choose our favorite apple in our apple tasting!!  Thank you!

Destiny was our All About Me student last week.  She showed us pictures of when she was a baby, 2 years old, 4 years old with the Easter Bunny, and with her Mom and brother, Camren.

This week’s All About Me student is Dominic and next week is Krisbel.

THIS WEEK:
We continue our author study on Eric Carle this week.  We will read many of his books including The Very Hungry Caterpillar, The Grouchy Ladybug, Rooster’s Off To See The World, and The Very Quiet Cricket.  We are also reviewing –s and –ing endings and working on short e and blends.  In math, we are working on subtraction. 

REMINDERS:
  • Picture Day is tomorrow!  These pictures will be in the yearbook.  If you want to order and haven’t done so online, please send money tomorrow morning.
  • Progress Reports will be in your child’s folder tomorrow – please sign & return!
  • Don’t forget to work on your habitat project due next Tuesday!
  • Open House is next Thursday, September 24th!  Please try to drop in between 6:00-7:30 to see what your children have been up to so far this year & sign up for parent conference… plus check out the yummy bake sale and the book fair!!
  • Library Check Out is tomorrow!  Please send books if you didn’t today.

THIS WEEK:
We are doing an author study on Eric Carle the next couple of weeks.  We will read many books including Little Cloud, A House for Hermit Crab, the Mixed-Up Chameleon, and Pancakes, Pancakes.  We are also studying “Animal Habitats”!  We will be reading various books including Here is the Coral Reef, Over the Steamy Swamp, Here is the Southwestern Desert, Here is the Tropical Forest, and Whose House is This?  In language arts, we are working on ending phonemes /s/ and /z/ and inflected endings –s and -ing.  In math, we continue to work on addition and subtraction – within 20 and with fluency to sums of 10. 

REMINDERS:
  • Don’t forget to read each night and return reading group book the next day.  
  • This Friday we will celebrate “National Anthem Day”!  We will wear red, white and blue and celebrate by singing around the flag pole at 9:00.  Parents are welcome!
  • Grandparent’s Day Celebration is this Friday at 2:00!  Thank you for those who volunteered to send in cookies – a reminder is in your child’s folder today.  
  • Library check-out this week is tomorrow!  Please return books.  Thanks!
  • We have gym again on Friday – wear tennis shoes!

Last week, Carson shared his All About Me poster.  He showed us pictures of when he was born, playing football at age 3, and a picture with his sister Jenna when he was in preschool.  Carson likes Batman, football, Legos, and Ninja turtles.

THIS WEEK:
Our theme this week is “Zoo Animals”!  We will read various books including Caps for Sale, Curious George, My Great Uncle Tiger, and Lots and Lots of Zebra Stripes.  We are also working on the short vowel o and the plural –s.  We continue to work on types of sentences.  In math, we are working on simple addition and subtraction. 

REMINDERS:
  • Reading Groups started today!  Books will come home each night (Mon-Thurs).  It is important that your child read his/her book each night and return it the next day, so they can get the new book.  
  • No School Monday, September 7th – Labor Day
  • Grandparent’s Day Celebration is Friday, September 11 at 2:00!  More information will be in your child’s folder tomorrow.  
  • Library check-out this week is Wednesday!  Please return books tomorrow.  Thanks!
